A FORMER Shavington High School pupil in need of a stem cell transplant has issued a desperate cry for help.Sam Nelson, a 23-year-old Sandbach farm worker, currently has blood and platelet transfusions every week to keep him alive.
His best long-term hope is a bone marrow transplant – and he’s asking the people of South Cheshire to turn up at Willaston on Sunday to help find a matching donor.
“I try to keep my chin up as much as I can and I’m not too bad at the moment, although I’m a little bit short of blood,” said Sam, who moved from Hough to Sandbach two years ago.
“I’m having blood transfusions and platelets two or three times a week but I desperately need a transplant.”
Sam, who attended Wybunbury Delves Primary School, was diagnosed with the blood disorder aplastic anaemia and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) in December 2009
