New Tesco store in Sleaford Lincolnshire.Things you should know....

.

A few things that you should know about the new store that is planned....sorry, going to be built for(?) Sleaford.

The existing store will not be left in a state for other supermarkets to use to provide competition to the New Tesco store, it will be turned into several small retail units.

The current petrol station will not be kept open to be able to compete with the new one at the new store, it will be closed due to an as of yet unspecified reason.

Tesco have given over £160'000 to aid a new "transport plan".....no doubt involving dropping off points at it's new store!.

Most worryingly the proposed footbridge planned to cross the rail crossing at the Southgate/Grantham Road junction was not even discussed with Sleaford's residents, it was simply decided to build one and then 4 designs where offered to Sleafordians for their approval!. Democracy in motion....almost!

Not wanting to sound like I think that Tesco have far to much influence in our "Market Town", but I have heard that even the welcome sign at it's boundary is to be changed to..........
"Sleaford, twinned with Tesco"

If you would like to air your views about this subject please feel free to post your comments on this blog via the comment option. Thanks.Andy

Strength and Honour. By Lee "Survivor" Frost......

Strength & Honour

For if you can run, with only the strength walk,

And smile when others would make you sad,

If you can stand with only the strength to lay,

And laugh when your humour has gone away,

If you can fight when all is lost,

When your dreams are broken at a pitance cost,

If you can fly with broken wings,

And listen closely as your pain sings,

If you can climb, when others crawl,

And become a giant, where others are small,

If you can scream without a sound,

And feel and listen to your heart pound,

If you can fall and yet, still rise,

And still look up into the skies,

If you can see, although blind,

And still keep Hope in your mind,

If you can venture where no others dare,

Yet feel the burden of Deaths stare,

If you can feel when the feelings gone,

And sing out loud your greatest song,

If all is dark and you become light,

And fight your enemy with your strongest fight,

If you can stand when others run,

And lift the feather that weighs a ton,

If you can listen when others shout,

Yet you go in when all go out,

If you can live where others die,

And smile and laugh when others cry,

Then shout it from the highest steeple,

Shouting it to all the people,

"Strength & Honour"

TalkTalk and the mysterious Semantic Error when you call 1471

.

As I have just spent the last half hour waiting to be put through to the TalkTalk Complaints line to report a spate of Spoof/Scam calls that we have received over the last few months.

Having got nowhere (as usual) in trying to make an official complaint, and instead being subjected (again!) to that bl**dy awful "Neon Rainbow" jingle for almost half an hour (makes your ears bleed....honestly!) I decided to call Ofcom...who told me (after listening to my concerns) that as the calls appeared to be coming from overseas, they could do nothing about them!.

I think that TalkTalk have a major security breach as the bloke on the scam call (told me he was from the Nationwide Call Centre) referred to me as "Mr Andrew", this is a mistake as Andrew is my first name, and the only other time this has happened was when I first joined TalkTalk and they sent me a welcome letter addressed to...yes, you guessed it...Mr Andrew!. The link seems quite a coincidence don't you think?

I wont go on too much, but can I just advise anyone else who experiences these calls and ends up reading this post:

A) Do NOT divulge ANY information. Ask THEM for a password.....even though they won't have one!

B) After the call don't bother to call 1471, it will say "There has been a semantic error, goodbye". Instead, call 1477 to log the call with Talk Talk as malicious (I did this). By logging the call as malicious it bypasses the "spoof" number (such as 0123456789) that these companies use to hide their real numbers, and instead the REAL number will be logged.

C) Let me know your story so we can force TalkTalk to investigate any possible sale of customers details to a third party.

If you want more info about this problem click HERE.

Have a nice day :-)

Lee needs a Bone Marrow Donor NOW. Can you help him?

.

A Facebook friend of mine has found himself in a very bad situation at the present moment. After being given the all clear from his AML (Acute Myeloid Leukaemia), he has just been told that the disease has come back again.

Lee Frost NEEDS a bone marrow donor NOW!. If you feel that you can help Lee, and if you are aged between 18-40 contact the Anthony Nolan Trust for testing. If you are over 40 (up to 49) contact the National Blood Service (Blood donors) .

Ask either of these services if they have any donor sessions planned in your area....if they don't....see if they can arrange one...ASAP!

Lee is based in Kettering Northamptonshire. Please, if you can do something to assist Lee in finding a donor please do it......time is of the essence folks!.

Lee is on Facebook ( Lee Van Halen Frost) if you would like to speak to him yourself, i am sure that he would be very pleased to hear from anyone who would like to help him :-)

Thanks in advance.

Japanese F16 jet hits building during Tsunami

.

Although to be honest the caption should probably read "Japanese F16 Floats into building" as this impact was due to the recent Earthquake and Tsunami.

Not quite sure what the building insurance assessor will make of that claim :-). Probably wont pay out because there is clause excluding such an event ever occurring!

After Earthquakes and Tsunami's Japan now faces Nuclear Reactor Meltdown.

.

After the news of the Japanese disaster only the other day I sat wide eyed this morning watching reports that as a result of the earthquake an old nuclear plant (built 1971) at Fukushima on the North side of Japan (approx 250 miles away from Tokyo), has experienced several explosions causing the release of Nuclear material into the atmosphere.

Although the damage to the reactor is not thought to be as critical as that that saw the disaster of the Chernobyl incident in the 1980's, it is still unclear as to the true "worst case scenario" that may be expected.

"No Chernobyl is possible at a light water reactor. Loss of coolant means a temperature rise, but it also will stop the reaction," Naoto Sekimura, a professor at the University of Tokyo, says.

Lets just hope that the outcome is a good one and that the poor Japanese have some let up in this terrible catalogue of events.

Tsunami after 8.9 scale quake in Japan.

.

Watching the horrifying images on TV today of the damage caused by the huge 8.9 scale earthquake in Japan it made me realise just how frail and venerable our societies are to the destructive powers of nature. We sometimes forget that when it comes to natural disasters we are no more able to avoid and defend against them now than we where a hundred years ago. Sure, our technology can warn us of impending doom and destruction, but against the natural world we are still pretty much at the mercy of the elements we often take for granted.

Lets just hope that fortune smiles on those effected, and that the death toll for this awful event does not rise much more.

The privatisation of the National Blood Service? Say 'No to Blood Money'!

.

4 March 2011

Staff representatives from the National Blood Service (NBS) have written to chief executive, Linda Hamlyn, and to NBS board members warning that the privatisation of the NBS could have serious effects on the fragile relationship between the service and its donors.

Around three million UK citizens give their blood every year. Unite says it is the ultimate "big society" service but the essence of the service would be fundamentally altered if a profit-motive was introduced to any part of the service.

Unite is demanding a full written report from the NBS board setting out what discussions have taken place with potential bidders, what decisions have been made and what time scales there might be regarding possible privatisation.

The union also wants MPs currently scrutinising the Health and Social Care bill to look seriously at ways to preserve the NBS so that profit-making companies are not handed parts of the service to operate, arguing that the only motive for the service ought to be the collection and distribution of blood for the common good.
